Creating a Mile of Food for Harvest Festival
441 meters donated from 12 schools so far
To celebrate this year's Harvest Festival, we're working with students across West Sussex and Hampshire to see if we can create a mile of ambient food donations to offer to local charities! We will offer this food to over 300 local charities that we work with, such as Sanctuary Supported Living, Bognor Housing Trust, Age UK and Chichester and District Foodbank, to make sure those people most in need have access to the food they need.
'The Food Mile' is a fun and engaging activity that brings schools together, by encouraging children and families to donate food. The UKHarvest team have created a video explaining the purpose of the food drive, and the need for food this winter. Watch the video on this page or click here to watch it on YouTube.
Laura Kottaun, Manager at Bognor Housing Trust was kind enough to share that 'Donations from UKHarvest provide healthy food for our homeless clients. At a time when food costs are rising, clients are struggling to buy food and these donations ensure they have more access to food. We also use donations as part of a group cooking session. These sessions enable clients to develop their cooking skills as well as try food they may not otherwise have tried. For example, this week clients and staff made a delicious butternut squash and chick pea curry."
We've been lucky enough to involve more schools than ever this year, as well as the continued support from The Regis School, Downview Primary School, Rose Green Junior School and Fernhurst Primary School to name a few. We're hoping to create a least a mile of ambient food before the end of the year.
Thank you to every individual and organisation that has supported so far!
