Food Waste Action
The current COVID-19 crisis and surrounding lockdowns have had a harrowing impact on the nation, and the demand for our services has never seen such an increase. In the first 6 weeks of the most recent lockdown, we’ve added an additional 50 organisations and charities to our weekly delivery of free food. From Bristol, to Kent, to London we deliver across southern England, helping up to 300,000 people gain access to delicious healthy meals every week.
We realise education is key to live well, age well, and make conscious decisions on food waste in the home, and that’s why we’ve added 12 new education programmes in the coming weeks. Our in-house nutritionist, professional chef and education officer, are teaching key skills to ensure cooking is accessible to everyone. With lockdown in full effect, we’ve moved our education sessions online, with great success, even having whole families cooking together for the first time over our zoom sessions!
Food poverty and waste is a growing issue in the UK, which is why we work with a network of food rescue partners across the nation, to ensure everyone in the UK has access to healthy nutritious meals. Together as XCESS we are united in the common purpose of intercepting edible surplus to create meaningful and lasting social change.
Everyone we speak to is surprised at just how big our operation is, so we’ve listed some key highlights to demonstrate our scale.
