Meet our new van!
Our new van, funded by WSCC, has only been in service since 21 January, but has already become instrumental in our operation. The van has been a lifeline in making collections and delivering food to our existing network, and the 40 new recipients we have signed up to weekly deliveries since the start of lockdown 3.
PJ’s (adorably named by our warehouse team), maiden voyage took 1 tonne of food to East Wittering Community Primary School, where we hosted a collection service for local families. The range of produce was vast, and included fresh fruit and veg to create healthy nutritious meals, as well as store cupboard essentials such as flour -and even a few treats kindly donated by Montezuma’s Chocolates. Already a firm favourite amongst the schools, PJ has also taken food to Portfield School and Central School in Chichester.
“Thank you so much for the continuing support for our children, their families and the community!!”
- East Wittering Community Primary School
Being utilised every day the van has made collections and deliveries across the breadth of West Sussex, and southern England. This has included a wide variety of the organisations we help, from foodbanks in Worthing, youth groups in Petworth, to family centres in Crawley.
“The van has been a pleasure to drive, and has really helped us distribute our food. We have been receiving a lot more recently because of the impact lockdown has had on the hospitality industry, and an extra van has helped us keep up with the demand.”
– Hugo, Volunteer Coordinator UKHarvest
We can’t thank WSCC enough for funding a van at such a crucial point in the current climate, where we unfortunately continue to see such a dramatic increase on our services.
