Help people in desperate need get food this winter

Millions of people across the UK are hungry – forced between paying for heating or feeding their families. The rising cost of living is pushing more and more people into poverty.

“I was eating ice to make it feel like I was eating and some weeks we only ate baked beans.” – Angie, community food hub user

We continue to meet local people facing the harsh realities of food insecurity. People who simply don’t have the money to spend on the food they need to live.

Please give a donation to help us provide the food, education and support people need. Together, we can solve the immediate pressures faced by people today and provide long-term support that will continue to help communities for years.

We can’t do this without you. You can help ensure our local community have enough to eat this winter.

Angie’s Story

For 10 months Angie ate less food than she needed. She regularly skipped meals and used foodbanks when she could, but even that wasn’t enough to provide the essential nutrition for the 9 family members that rely on her.

“I was eating ice to make it feel like I was eating and some weeks we only ate baked beans.”

Angie found out about our community food hubs and now receives the food, education and support she needs each week.

“I can honestly say if it wasn’t for this food hub I would have had a breakdown”.

UKHarvest has helped Angie out of food insecurity and provided a warm and safe community space to get the assistance she needs. Your donation helps us reach more people just like Angie, to prevent hunger, overcome social isolation and tackle the deeper issues that can cause food insecurity.

Angie’s story is a real experience, but their name has been changed to protect their identity.

Our Promise

We have built a network of partners across the UK to ensure we can support those most vulnerable and provide individuals, families and communities with the food, education and support they need. This winter we will:

  • Provide warm spaces and opportunities for people to come together and eat fresh, nutritious meals
  • Invite communities to access the food they need and meet local support services at our food hubs across West Sussex
  • Provide warming, filling meals and the opportunity to meet people at our Nourish Hub, London
  • Donate free food to the 350 charities we work with across Southern England
  • Teach people to cook and eat well for less at our friendly nutrition and cookery events

The Problem

Recent published figures show that almost 1 in 5 people don’t have reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food. This not only causes immediate impact on people’s physical and mental health and wellbeing, but can cause long lasting damage to their health. Poor diet is a major contributor to the 10,000 diabetes related amputations that are carried out every year.*
